Fighting For Our Youth Program
Recruiting Young People From The Community
Fighting for our Youth Program: we start by recruiting young people from the community. Recruitment process utilizes churches, community centers, block clubs as well as random neighborhood encounters. Our assessment would go further to determine condition [physical and mental], aspirations, and temperament of the youth. Once the participants have been chosen the next step will be designing particular programs surrounding exercise, conditioning, and eating habits [combating childhood obesity].
Coming into the summer months as school is closing down, program focus shifts on increasing the activity level of the training. At this juncture the participants would start with real time training in the art of boxing. This close interaction of training will focus on habits, techniques and the overall stamina that is required in the boxing profession. And during these interactions the coaches’ responsibilities will be dialoguing with the participants and helping them address various developmental issues that they may be encountering both at home and externally.
Program will continue to train participants and developed the physical attributes in order for them to be able to defend themselves in situations and stress the importance of this new skill in preventing (anti)bullying.
Objective program outcomes are, with participants equipped with newly acquired skills, will use them, increasing their school academics and positive personal interactions with their peers.
With the formal portion of program cycle ending, the goal for the next year is that the youth that went through the program, will re-engage next year. In addition, certain program graduates will be solicited to become assistant trainers and possible junior coaches for the next year.
